Dystopian Legions, In The Box

Spartan Games has a fantastic set of miniatures for their game called Dystopian Legions. Below are the figures you will get for each of the 4 different starter armies. As you can see, some of the figures are quite stunning and actually Spartan has made it a little difficult as to which to pick.  Every Army seems to have some really cool figures.

My personal favorites are the Prussian Empire and the Federated States, but both the Kingdom Of Britannia and the Blazing Sun have fantastic looking figures as well.

The starters range from £40.00 - £42.00 or you can save a little money by buying 2 for £70.00 or 4 for £135.00.  They also have started selling other figures and vehicles that are not included in the starter army set.

I would like to see some basic trooper box sets come out that were a little less expensive.  The only problem people are going to have with this range is scale.  The figures are much bigger than most other weird war stuff out there right now, so the figures are going to be a little tall.

Each Starter set includes.

• 12-14 highly-detailed minatures. Each miniature is pewter with the exception of the Prussian Empire Teutonic Knights, which is a combination of resin and pewter, and the Kingdom of Britannia Sky Hussars, which are pewter miniatures with resin smoke plumes.
• Model Bases: 6 x 40mm bases and 8 x 30mm bases. 40mm bases are used for Officers, Characters and elite models. 30mm bases are used for standard infantry.
• Token Sheet: A5 Token Sheet for you to cut out and use to represent actions executed in a game of Dystopian Legions.
• Dice: 8 x black D6, 8 x blue D6 and 8 x red D6. Ruler: An 8 inch acrylic ruler to match the range band system.
• Stat Sheet: Detailing statistics for all weaponry and MARs relevant to the miniatures included in your Starter Set.
• Activation Cards: 5 x Activation Cards to be used to determine order of march. Game Cards: 13 x generic Game Cards, 13 x nation-specific Game Cards, 2 x additional Character Game Cards.  
• Quickplay Rulebook: 80-pages covering all areas of the game mechanics you will need to play a full game of Dystopian Legions, along with descriptive examples and colour diagrams to aid your understanding.

John Carter of Mars, Girl Friends

When your girlfriend says to you, "hey let's go see that Mars movie", you question life as you know it.  After your jaw drops and you pick it back up, you don't hesitate in saying yes. :-)  I was lucky enough to go see John Carter of Mars last night.  I have to say I wasn't sure what to expect.  After seeing it, I thought the movie was well executed and was fun to watch.  Now she wants to watch Lord Of Rings, what to do...what to do. :-)

She just informed me that the actor that played John Carter filmed Friday Night Lights here in Austin and fell in love with the city and decided to build a house here.  She now says she wants to meet him.  Little does she know, I am also from Virginia and will smash him like the Martian bug that he is.

If your looking to get some Mars type miniatures there are 3 companies that I know of who make rather nice Martian type figures.

Black Hat carry a line called Martian Empires.  The figures are 18mm, but the martian ones might actually work just fine with 15mm.

Tinman Miniatures carries a line of 32mm John Carter type figures.  The figures are extremely well sculpted and have a ton of character.

Bronze Age Miniatures carries a line of 32mm Wasteland figures.  The figures are a little larger than Tinmans, but would work nicely together.

Paroom Station Miniatures carries a line of 28mm Mars figures.  They tend to be much smaller than Tinman or Bronze Aged Miniatures.

TinMan Miniatures, Back at it

TinMan Miniatures is releasing some fantastic new miniatures.  I have a bunch of the figures and they are all really sweet in both detail and design.  Absolutely love the Wild Ride figure seen below, which retails for $24.95.   The figures are scaled at 32mm, where a six-foot tall man is about 32mm from the soles of his feet to the top of his head.

Bronze Age Miniatures, Sci-Fi Wolfmen

Bronze Age Miniatures have some rather exciting new Sci-Fi troops in the form of wolfmen.  Each 32mm figure is $7.  They are running a 30% off sale through the 29th of October.

DreamForge-Games, KickStarter, Project Eisenkern

DreamForge-Games has launched Project Eisenkern, a KickStarter campaign to produce a line of 32mm sci-fi figures.  The first set of miniatures have sort of a Warzone Bauhaus feel to them.

There are going to be 2 troop types produced for this campaign including the Sturmtruppen and the Kriegsmarine, which are medium troop choices for the Eisenkern faction.

The Sturmtruppen (Stormtroopers)are an elite fighting force for the Whermacht (regular army) equipped with composite armor they can withstand withering barges of fire that would wound or kill lesser armored troops. The Sturmtruppen’s main role is to secure and hold key military points and act as the armored fist of the Whermacht, grinding the opposition to dust.

The Kriegsmarine were created when the Imperial navy took to space. A merging of the Navy, Air force and Fallschirmjager, these are elite troops and medium troop choices for the Eisenkern faction. Typically assigned to planetary assault, they drop from low orbit with the use of their drop packs, a device that allows the trooper to fall at terminal velocity towards its target and stop just before impacting the planet’s surface.

Dust Tactics, Heavy Infantry

There are some cool units coming out for the Dust Tactics game.  The first unit for the Allies is called the Dust Tactics Red Devils and the German counter parts to these guys are called the Dust Tactics Heavy Recon Grenadiers.  I really like the looks of both units, but some of the poses are a little weird.

Sapphire Wars, 32mm miniatures

Sapphire Wars will be small skirmish game using 32mm scale miniatures.

Sapphire Wars will be deadly fight between greedy corporations on a distant planet, not humanity fighting against aliens for survival.  It doesn't appear that humans will make an appearance in this world.

Time line for the rules and releases.

The release schedule should be early Fall 2011.  It will be good time to start heroic stories about small corporate squads on the far side of known space...
