Lucid has a large collection of rules and miniatures for their various game systems. I happen to be a fan of their Toon Realms Elfs. A bit cartoonish and fun.
They also have a line called Savage Core that might fit in nicely with Copplestone's range. These are more realistic.
Recently Mantic Games did a Kickstarter for Kings Of War. They ended up with 2,747 backers and a pledge amount of $366,547. Not too shabby.
Lately I have been going old school and collecting older GW Orcs, Chaos Dwarfs, Hobgoblins/Goblins. Back in the 80's and early 90's GW seemed to make what I considered great sculpts with loads of character. Some were of course rather goofy, but they were still fun.
Now I was never really into Warhammer, because it seemed the rules were always changing and you needed to be a lawyer to really get the most out of them. The other problem of course is Games Workshop seemed to write the rules for selling miniatures rather than writing the rules for people to actually play. Every new army seemed to be better than the previous ones. Armies that people had spent lots of money on would suddenly become obsolete.
I have been watching Kings Of War grow and I thought it was time to give them a look. From what I have seen thus far, the game looks really fun and streamlined. You have heros, monsters and mass troops, just like in Warhammer, but the game play seems much better. The basics are pretty easy to learn. As a player you can spice your troops up with things that give them advantages and every race feels different.
What is neat about Kings Of War is you really could use just about any fantasy figure from any manufacture you want. Those who are GW Warhammer fans can always bring their armies and most of them are represented in the Kings Of War world. We are talking about Forces of the Abyss, Forces of Nature, Undead, Dwarfs, Elves, Abyssal
Dwarfs, Goblins, Orcs, Ogres, Basileans and the Kingdoms of Men.
Watching these 2 videos gives you a good understanding of the game mechanics and why it looks like a load of fun.
In my never ending quest for cool miniatures I came across a company called Gamezone Miniatures. They are a Spanish company that has been around since 2002, but I never purchased anything from them.
They have some rather tasty human types in their Empire and Feudal Knight line. Their Feudal Knight line has several figures that would work great for Frostgrave.
These are 25mm scale, so they are smaller than the likes of Otherworld pig orcs, but work really well with the figures produced in the early 70's - 80's.
Fractured Dimensions - Produced a set of about 16 Pig Faced Orcs, however their current site seems to be down and I am not sure what the status is.
Mountain Miniatures has a set of Orcs that are completely compatible with the Fractured Dimension Orcs since they were sculpted by the same person.
Here are some rather cool old school Kobolds from Minifigs. Now of course Minifigs is long gone, but their figures can still be found on Ebay occasionally. There were kobold 5 figures produced, 2 to a stand (KL1 - KL5).
Here is a rather nice group of Orcs from Bob Olley called the Titan Orcs. Bob no longer sells these, but they can be found by contacting Classic Miniatures (http://classicminiatures.net). These are rather large for 28mm, so they sort of fall into the heroic 30mm range.
Here are some really interesting Knights from Tor Gaming (https://torgaming.co.uk) called Ridend Kapolop Knights. They are currently on Pre Order (£13.33 for a pack of 4). They were sculpted by Russ Charles.
I came across a rather cool 28mm tank (http://www.blackarmyproductions.com) called the "DaVinci's Tank" from Black Army Productions. The tank sells for $25. It has that Victorian Science Fiction theme to it.
The prices seem reasonable these days.
What you pay:
- £23.50 for 1 pack (4 figures)
- £45 for 2 packs (8 figures)
- £64 for 3 packs (12 figures)
- £18 for each additional pack over that.
So you're looking for those little furry feet guys. I am on a quest for the best Non-GW halfling/hobbit figures.
First up halflings from http://www.scotiagrendel.com. They have 2 different sets including the Halfling Adventurers and the Halfling Homebodies. I wish they had one more figure with a sword.
GFR0025 - Halfling Adventurers £5.00
GFR0026 - Halfling Homebodies £5.00
Up next are some little people from Mirliton (http://www.mirliton.it) called halfmen. Please - these are full on halflings/hobbits.
Sgt Major Miniatures (http://sgmm.3dcartstores.com) have an excellent pack of figures in their Bloody Day Of Fantasy line called Fantasy Heroes. These were formally from Vendel.
