Christmas 28mm Miniatures

For the last 10 or so years I have been collecting miniatures for a Christmas game that has yet to be played.  Earlier this month I scored a huge Chaos Dwarf army that was painted.  I got it for $250.  The cool part was the painted figures replaced all the unpainted Chaos Dwarfs I had collected over the years.  I was able to sell 5 lots of them on Ebay for $260, meaning I got a fantastic painted army for free. :-)

Now I am on the hunt for some Nutcracker figures that would work with all the other figures I have collected.

Midlam Miniatures - Halflings

Just got in some samples of the Midlam Miniatures (http://www.midlamminiatures.co.uk) halfling set.  The figures look fantastic with almost zero flash.  The figures have round bases and the current of halflings comes from Midlam's Adventuring Folk line called the "Halfling Town Council".  You can buy all 8 in a set or individually.  The set is on sale for $15.52, a pretty good deal for some very colorful halflings.

The halflings match up really well with most other companies halflings.  If you are looking for a set to spice up a town, these will work perfectly.

I am the process of trying to track down a few cool Robbers, Thugs or Highwaymen figures for Frostgrave.

Otherworld Miniatures has a fantastic human thug in their Non Player Character range called the NPCT7 – Tavern Bouncer.

I am still on the hunt for more guys like this.

Lead Adventure looks like they made some rather tasty thugs.  Not sure if these are still available, since they didn't show up in their store.  Could be out at the moment.

Citadel back in the day made some outstanding Thugs

 Warlord Games has a few interesting figures in there Pike & Shotte.

 

CP Models

Been trying to find some thugs for Frostgrave.

One warband I am working on are the Pig Orcs from Otherworld Miniatures.  While they have some fantastic pig orcs that I will be using for the Wizard & Apprentice, Knight and Marksman, I didn't think they had the exact figures I want for the thug selection.

CP Models has some that I think might workout.

Architects Of War - Fanticide

Just saw an interesting game called Fanticide. It's a ruleset and miniatures that look rather fun. It's by the same makers as the All Quiet on the Martian Front gaming system.

GW Fenrisian Wolves

I am not a big Fan of GW's pricing and sales tactics, but every now and then they have some really interesting figures.

I know these have been out for a while, but the 28mm Games Workshop Fenrisian Wolves are pretty Epic.

Frostgrave Review

After looking into Frostgrave, I am convinced it is going to be a pretty amazing game.

The essence of the game is to create a small group or warband of figures (Think Mordheim) and fight against another warband.  The main character or leader is a Wizard.  The Wizards can be selected from 10 different schools of magic.  Obviously each school has it's own unique spells, which can be used during battles.  Each Wizard can have an apprentice. 

Once you have chosen your Wizard, you have 500 points to spend on your warband.  The maximum number in the warband, excluding the Wizard is 8.  Most warbands will probably have an apprentice (You don't have to use an apprentice, but it's probably best to do so) and that will cost you 200.  The rest can be spend on various soldiers.   A knight for example is 100.  A thug will cost you 20.  Once your warband is made, you're ready to fight

Spells

Each Wizard belongs to a specific school of magic.  Currently each school of magic has

• 3 schools that are aligned with it
• 5 schools that are neutral
• 3 that are opposed

Each School has 8 different spells

Your Wizard spells can be chosen using the following

• 3 spells from your own school of magic
• 1 spell from each of the other aligned schools of magic
• 2 spells from any of the neutral schools of magic

As you can see there are loads of spell combinations that you can form and bring to battle.  Depending on your opponent, some of your spells may overlap theirs.

Warploque Miniatures , River Troll

Alex of Warploque Miniatures was kind enough to send me a sample of the River Troll. The Troll figures are made out of resin and stand about 2 inches tall. Currently there are 4 types of trolls, (Forest, Hill, Mountain and River). He is currently working on a Giant and some really interesting looking goblin/orc looking types. If you are into malifaux you might just want to pick these up.

The River Troll comes in as a 5 part set.  The figure is completely resin and I have to say very nicely cast.  I will have some comparisons of this guy with some 28mm figures by next week.

This Troll would fit in nicely with any 28mm army or as a Giant Troll in a 15mm army.

Also since we are talking Warploque Miniatures, they actually have a new miniature ruleset called ArcWorlde and have an awesome Kickstarter going on right now.  The video is really slick and they look like they are going to produce some really nice figures.  Here is a link to the play test rule set.

River Troll

Reaper Miniatures, Kickstarter

If you want to get an amazing deal on Reaper Miniatures, check out their Kickstarter. For the $100 Vampire Level you will be getting well over 100 figures.  Besides all the cool Fantasy figures, they have started to throw in a bunch of Chronoscope 28mm Sci-Fi figures (at least 16).  Some of their add-on are crazy good deals as well.  They have already reached 1/2 a million and could easily hit million the way things are progressing.  It is an insane value.

Comfy Chair Games, Dominion of the Gods

Comfy Chair Games announce the title of their upcoming game, Dominion of the Gods.   Really dig the Cyclops.  Would make a great 15mm monster or a villain for Superfigs.

Stonehaven Miniatures Kickstarter

I have always been a big fan of Dwarfs, so it is no surprise that I am a little excited about Stonehaven Miniatures Kickstarter project.  The figure artwork is fun and the figures themselves should be great sculpts.  If you sign up for the $40 Mega Goal pledge level, you currently are going to get at least 11 of these little suckers.

Black Hat Miniatures, Goblins

Very excited to see Black Hat Miniatures pick up the WWI fantasy Goblin range from Frank Hammond.  These figures are very cool and would certainly make for some great scenarios.

Single figures retail for £2.00 and larger sets for £8.00-£15.00

The 28mm goblins (20mm to the eye) were designed to use against the Hasslefree Miniatures Kindred WWI Halflings.

Darwin-Games, Rise of the Occulites

Here are some figure comparisons from Darwin Games Rise of the Occulites.  All the big tribe figures are quite heavy (not a bad thing) and are cast up really well.  There is a great amount of detail on the figures and they simply look amazing.  They will of course work well in both 28mm or 15mm settings.
