Ral Partha 15mm Fantasy 1979

So I was digging through my miniatures and came across some I picked up in 1979. This range was present in the 1980 and 1982 catalogs. Dennis Mize was credited as the sculptor.

They came from Ral Partha's Armies Of Myth and Legend.

Warploque Miniatures , River Troll

Alex of Warploque Miniatures was kind enough to send me a sample of the River Troll. The Troll figures are made out of resin and stand about 2 inches tall. Currently there are 4 types of trolls, (Forest, Hill, Mountain and River). He is currently working on a Giant and some really interesting looking goblin/orc looking types. If you are into malifaux you might just want to pick these up.

The River Troll comes in as a 5 part set.  The figure is completely resin and I have to say very nicely cast.  I will have some comparisons of this guy with some 28mm figures by next week.

This Troll would fit in nicely with any 28mm army or as a Giant Troll in a 15mm army.

Also since we are talking Warploque Miniatures, they actually have a new miniature ruleset called ArcWorlde and have an awesome Kickstarter going on right now.  The video is really slick and they look like they are going to produce some really nice figures.  Here is a link to the play test rule set.

River Troll

KickStarter, Goalsystem Delves: Dungeon Skirmish Role-Play

A friend of mine, Scott Pyle, has a new game system up on Kickstarter called Goalsystem Delves: Dungeon Skirmish Role-Play.  Scott is the creator of the GoalSystem and has a series of games including SuperSystem, Chaos in Cairo and a few others. 

If you're a big fan as I am of his other systems, you will really want to check this KickStarter out.  There are only 4 days left.


Goalsystem Delves provides rules and adventures for playing character-driven skirmish games in fantasy worlds of mysteries, magic, and monsters. These rules harken back to the days of classic dungeon crawls and the world’s most popular fantasy RPG.  Players take the roles of a group of hardened adventurers seeking treasure, glory, and the defeat of the festering evils that remain hidden in the darkest corners of forgotten dungeons.

The game is written for 15mm and 28mm figures, although the miniatures that are in the KickStarter are 28mm.

Pride Of Lions 2nd Edition

David and his Dad have just released an updated version of their 15mm Fantasy ruleset Pride Of Lions 2nd Edition (PDF).  You can order direct from Splintered Light Miniatures.

This 122 page PDF ruleset seeks to provide a fast and fun game of fantasy mass combat. It is the designer’s belief that the best games result from a combination of simple rules mechanics and the opportunity for the players to make many decisions.

In PRIDE OF LIONS the role of each player is that of the commanding general of the army or warlord of the horde. Magic, and the courage and skills of individual heroes, can affect the game, but the outcome of the battle will depend mainly on the clash of large units of common fighters operating under the general’s orders.

Darwin-Games, Rise of the Occulites

Here are some figure comparisons from Darwin Games Rise of the Occulites.  All the big tribe figures are quite heavy (not a bad thing) and are cast up really well.  There is a great amount of detail on the figures and they simply look amazing.  They will of course work well in both 28mm or 15mm settings.

Darwin-Games, Rise of the Occulites, Ignis Tribe

Here is the latest tribe for Darwin-Games Rise of the Occulites called the Ignis Tribe.  The figures have been moved up in the release schedule and will be available at the same time as the Nimbus.  A very welcomed late October release. 

These figures are just so fun, everyone should get at least one tribe.




The Ignis tribes are found living on or close to lava flats – sometimes even within the vicinity of volcanic activity. They use this terrain to separate themselves from other tribes, preferring to keep to themselves. Any incursions into their lands though are dealt with swiftly and harshly. Ignis tribes are covered in a thick, leathery skin, that takes on the appearance of molten rock. Cracks in this surface act as natural vents, allowing the build up of pressure and heat taken in from their surroundings, to be released. As such, these areas glow boldly with reds, yellows and oranges, warning predators and enemies that this tribe is not to be trifled with.

The new Darwin Games Rise Of The Occulites figures are now available for order.  Even if your not into these figures, you have to check out Darwin Games website.  It is top notch all the way.  If the website is any indication of how the game system is going to pan out, then wow it's going to be amazing.

I would say these figures from the comparison below would work perfectly in both 28mm Fantasy games as well as 15mm fantasy.

If your looking for some kick butt way cool figures that look too fun for words, then you have to check out Rise of the Occulites.  The miniatures are sculpted by Bob Olley, one of my favorite sculptors.  The plan is to have at least 4 different tribes of miniatures (the big one eyed fellows) and probably a bunch of smaller ones.  There are also 4 games in the works.

The first game in the series “Dawn – Rise of the Occulites” is a miniatures boardgame. It is set in a time when the Occulite civilisation is just forming. Occulites travel from cave to cave in small tribes. Daily life is tough, with Sungems and territory being vital to a tribe’s ability to survive. The game features objective based skirmish gameplay and sees you steer your tribe through a fully customisable campaign, but pick up and play scenarios are also on offer. Dawn uses an innovative card based action resolution system that is easy to use but difficult to master. This game is pretty much fully fleshed out and is just waiting of figure sculpts to be done before releasing.

Well it looks like Mark from Copplestone Castings is getting into the 15mm game with the release of 15mm Barbarians.  I love his 10mm fantasy line and these look equally as good.

Khurasan Miniatures, Octopus God

Here is something fun coming from Khurasan Miniatures called the Octopus God.  Jon has created this beast for his new Eldritch horror line.  The figure will be all resin and will not come with a base.  The figure should be about 75mm tall.

Splintered Light Miniatures, Dark Elves

Here is a look at some 15mm Dark Elf personality pack greens from Splintered Light Miniatures.  I have other dark elf figures from Splintered Light and I have to say they are pretty slick.

David should also have some masters of the Gnomes and Cave Imps (by sculptor Whiff Waff) very soon. The figures should be available early February.

Olleys Armies, 15mm Orcs

Bob Olley of Olleys Armies is working on some 15mm Orc sculpts.  These figures should work perfectly with many of the 15mm Splintered Light Miniatures.

Spintered Light Miniatures, Halfling Militia

Here are some new upcoming Splintered Light Miniatures halflings militia types.  There were sculpted by Rod Campbell.  The militia infantry pack will have 9 unique sculpts, including slingers, farm weapons, and a leader.  The cavalry will have three poses and choice of pig or pony mounts.

Cave Imps

Here are greens from a 15mm Cave Imps army sculpted by Adam (Wiff Waff).  The army doesn't have a buyer yet, but I am hoping Splintered Light Miniatures picks these up to fight against the Gnome Army they just acquired.

Splintered Light Miniatures - Gnomes

Here are some greens of Gnomes that Splintered Light Miniatures will be releasing.    You can see a bunch more pictures on Frothers   I really like David and I will certainly be picking these up.  I have always wanted a Gnome army and these guys look awesome.  The Gnomes were sculpted by Adam (Wiff Waff).  The range is going to include small gnomes, large gnomes, mushrooms and snails.  What is not to love.

Splintered Light Miniatures, Wood Elves

Splintered Light Miniatures has a host of new 15mm Wood Elves coming out.  These were sculpted by Faron Betchley.  Faron is an old friend of mine, so it is really cool seeing some of his figures.  Faron's sculpting has really come a long way.  Check out Splintered Light Miniatures blog for more information on this exciting new range.
